JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Technical Engineer/officer.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager Performance Engineering, this position is responsible to contribute to Ontario Power Generation by monitoring and analyzing electrical systems and plant information in collaborating with other sections within Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Work Control – Online/Outage/Refurbishment, Projects, and external stakeholders to identify trends; providing troubleshooting solutions; and advocating for opportunities to improve system health.  As a member of the system engineering team, the role will include support for both the operating station along with the Darlington Refurbishment Project.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for systems/ components performance by monitoring and analyzing plant information, identifying trends; providing troubleshooting solutions to the station; and advocating for opportunities to improve system health.
  • Developing, reviewing and optimizing the maintenance strategies for station systems, components and structures.
  • Preparing system health reports and action plans to sustain and improve system performance, identifying system and project risks; and supporting improvement modifications. 
  • Working with a multi-disciplined team of engineering and technical specialists to support the operation of the various electrical systems.
  • Developing, planning, supporting and tracking the execution of projects in compliance with the industry's demanding set of regulations and standards.
  • Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems.
  • Co-ordinate the clarification of specification requirements and arrange for necessary changes and/or co-ordinate technical work as required in several major work areas.
  • Maintain and/or update operating and other specified department/divisional procedures.
  • Perform documentation reviews to ensure work performed is fully documented and has a complete set of records available.
  • Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate work as required, in several major work areas, in support of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the facilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Requires a knowledge of physcs, chemistry, metallurgy, mathematics, electricity, engineering and economics to technically understand the operation of the facility.
  • Requires training and experience in an industrial environment associated with the design, development, operation or maintenance of industrial systems and equipment.
  • Minimum 4 to 6 years of experience in a related engineering field is preferred.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions.
