JOB OVERVIEW

 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a project management professional to join our team in the role of Team Lead – Turbine Systems Refurbishment for a 18-month contract opportunity based out of our Darlington location in Courtice, ON.

 

As part of the Darlington Nuclear Refurbishment Turbine Generating team and reporting to the Project Manager, the successful Team Lead – Turbine Systems Refurbishment is responsible for leading a team comprised of professional, Technical and trades staff engaged in project modification and site maintenance activities in a multi-unit nuclear generating facility.  This role provides leadership in project management including design, cost schedule, quality, material control and contract work and is responsible for optimization of project implementation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Ensure work is executed safely, on time and on budget; promote safety as an overriding priority in all activities performed.
  • Define project objectives, scope, estimates, schedules, work plans and all resource requirements, (including equipment and staffing).
  • Integrate the efforts of all persons contributing to a project including the customer, planning, finance, engineering, estimating, drafting, installation, quality control, radiation protection, safety, security, materials management, cost and schedule control, commissioning and documentation.
  • Explore alternatives and recommend options to achieve project objectives.
  • Identify risks and mitigating actions to eliminate or mitigate risks.
  • Coordinate and be responsible for project documentation.
  • Ensure appropriate Project Management and Contract Management governance is followed.
  • To actively interface with milestone owners, OPG project bundle groups, functional support groups and reporting out on status to management.
  • Provide strong leadership to monitor bundle progress and status updates to meet the requirements of Engineering, Schedule, Procurement and Other Refurbishment related Project and Outage milestones.
  • Collaborate with key project stakeholders and drive accountability.
  • Set clear expectations for staff and contractors.
  • Drive performance to meet project quality, schedule and cost targets.
  • Promote a team environment whereby Oversight staff and contractor staff strive to build a trusting relationship and work together as a team.

EDUCATION

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Applied Science OR Technical College Degree;
  • PEng., Certified Engineer Technologist (CET) or trade licenses are considered an asset;
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) certification is considered an asset

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a similar project management and supervisory role;
  • People and team oriented with a strong ability to establish an excellent level of confidence, credibility, motivation and cooperation with OPG’s internal and external stakeholders, and lead a team;
  • Experience working within the nuclear industry is strongly preferred;
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary and multi-phase long term projects/programs;
  • Experience with Mechanical and Hydraulic process systems as well as Turbine / Generator control systems is considered an asset
  • Knowledge and deep understanding of project / program management methodologies (WBS, Top Down/Bottom Up methods, planning and monitoring, Change management, Scope management, Cost Control), practices (Earned Value calculations, CPI/SPI, reporting) and other project management related fields;
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blue prints and specifications;
  • Strong problem solving skills to address and overcome current and future challenges;
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills to execute time sensitive deliverables;
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure project satisfies stakeholder requirements, and lead a team;
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written, is essential;
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively;
  • A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively manage multiple deliverables simultaneously; and
  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
