JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Sr. Draftsperson- Mechanical.
Reporting to the Manager Design Engineering, this position is responsible for preparing mechanical drawings and sketches for equipment and piping systems to support design, material procurement, fabrication, and installation at a nuclear generating station using CAD tools.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Prepare and revise mechanical CAD drawings to depict modifications to established design schemes (e.g., location, size, clearances, support quantities) and to ensure drawings include complete, accurate details such as piping, valves, fittings, instrumentation locations, erection dimensions, and pipe supports, consistent with recorded design precedent and specified change conditions.
- Plan and execute assigned drawing/production work by obtaining and validating reference data, reviewing instructions, determining an efficient work approach, confirming scope and level of required detail, and escalating conflicts, missing details, or unresolved production issues to the supervisor.
- Perform required technical calculations (using algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and provided/specified formulae) to support drawing development and ensure technical accuracy.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and other work groups (as directed) to clarify requirements, resolve technical issues, and obtain missing or conflicting information to enable completion of drawing packages.
- Participate in plant walkdowns to confirm field conditions and support configuration management by ensuring drawings reflect current/as-built plant configuration and approved changes.
- Prepare Bills of Material (BOMs) and material lists by compiling material descriptions, manufacturer/make, catalog numbers, code markings, and quantities for items shown on drawings, leveraging catalogues and Passport (or equivalent systems) to ensure completeness and traceability.
- Operate and support CAD plotting equipment by loading drawing paper as required and assisting with routine plotter issues (e.g., paper tearing) to maintain reliable output and minimize downtime.
- Provide CAD workstation guidance and demonstrations to internal and external personnel by explaining workstation operation, equipment use, and operating techniques to support effective utilization.
- Conduct self-checks and quality reviews of work products to prevent errors, identify discrepancies early, and ensure drawings and associated deliverables meet drafting, technical, and document control standards.
- Work safely and promote the health, safety, and well-being of self and others by following technical/operating procedures and standards and contributing to the development of safe technical/operating solutions to problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in mechanical engineering technology.
- 4+ years of demonstrated experience producing and revising mechanical CAD deliverables (drawings, sketches, and operational flowsheets) for industrial/station facility projects.
- Proven capability developing detailed piping system drawings and detailed layouts, including valves, fittings, instruments, supports, and erection dimensions, in accordance with project and client standards.
- Experience participating in plant/field walkdowns, verifying as-built conditions, and incorporating field data into controlled design documents (configuration management mindset).
- Ability to gather, validate, and apply reference information from records, standards, and stakeholders; strong skill in confirming scope, requirements, and drawing limits before execution.
- Competence performing required mechanical calculations using algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and prescribed formulas to support design accuracy.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to resolve drafting/design questions, escalate conflicts/missing details, and coordinate inputs across multiple disciplines.
- Experience preparing BOMs/material lists (descriptions, catalog numbers, quantities) to support procurement, fabrication, and complete drawing documentation; familiarity with catalog-based material identification and asset/procurement systems (e.g., Passport or similar) preferred.
- Ability to produce civil engineering design deliverables using CAD tools.
- Strong commitment to nuclear safety culture, including conservative decision-making, questioning attitude, procedural adherence, and accountability.
The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.

It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.
OPG is committed to employment equity. As such, we encourage applicants from equity-seeking communities (Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and women). We strongly believe that alleviating the under-representation of equity-seeking individuals will create a stronger OPG team and allow us to better serve the needs of our diverse communities.
