JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of a Procurement Specialist

 

Reporting to the Manager of Supply Chain, this position is responsible for planning, co-ordinating and performing procurement assignments for various goods and services, including; EPCM and its variants, engineered products, materials, services, and vendor management inventory programs.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Serve as an information resource to users, requisitioners, and suppliers regarding procurement processes, commercial considerations, and vendor qualification procedures.
  • Assist procurement groups with technical matters, including proponent lists, quality and regulatory requirements, and problem resolution during manufacturing or service delivery.
  • Participate in site meetings (daily, weekly, monthly) at OPG facilities to plan, coordinate, and status items and services supporting site operations.
  • Develop and recommend procurement and sourcing strategies based on market conditions, supply base assessments, and the needs of requisitioners and end-users.
  • Monitor, assess, and track supplier performance; investigate and resolve vendor issues; maintain up-to-date records on supplier capabilities and approved vendor lists.
  • Prepare and review procurement documents (RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, contracts, purchase orders), resolve ambiguities, and ensure compliance with quality, commercial, and technical standards.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals, participate in negotiations and pre-award meetings, make award recommendations, and administer contracts to ensure fulfillment of obligations and dispute resolution.
  • Perform inventory management and procurement oversight activities, including preparing reports, coordinating with EPC contractors, and suggesting process improvements to enhance departmental efficiency and effectiveness.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 year University education in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Science or Law.
  • 4+ years of relevant procurement work experience 
  • Experience with design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation practices to assess manufacturer capabilities.
  • Familiarity with commercial and industrial standards, including inspection and testing of materials, components, and services.
  • Knowledge of production planning, scheduling, quality assurance, and engineering design.
  • Experience with preparing and implementing inspection procedures and resolving technical problems.
  • Understanding the commercial aspects of contracts, contract law, and business administration.
  • Experience working with internal departments and external organizations, and effectively handling controversial matters.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
