OPG is looking for qualified candidates to join our Maintenance team in the role of Millwright Journeyperson – Crane Mechanic.  This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to Ontario Power Generation’s continued growth and success in generating safe, clean, reliable low-cost power in a sustainable manner.


As a TERM employee for Ontario Power Generation you will be required to join Local 2309 Millwright Hall and will be supporting the long-term life of the Pickering Generating Station. You will receive an attractive wage and benefit package through Local 2309.



A Millwright Journeyperson – Crane Mechanic’s main job duties are to inspect, maintain, and repair industrial Overhead and Gantry Cranes. Additional qualifications include strong technical skills, physical stamina, and situational awareness. As a crane technician, you work closely with the equipment to find and replace defective parts, clean the components, and calibrate all machinery.


Specifically, a Millwright Journeyperson – Crane Mechanic will:

  • Be aware of and comply with all safety regulations, climbing ladders, and working at heights
  • Trouble-shoot, repair, install and perform hydraulic and mechanical maintenance on various crane equipment
  • Utilize attention to detail skills to record repair history on work orders, noting problems or unusual situations encountered during repairs
  • Diagnoses problems by operating the machines or inspecting the equipment with the help of computerized testing tools, calibration appliances, and micrometers
  • Perform regular worksite inspections and preventive maintenance on machinery
  • Be able to read electrical, hydraulic and mechanical schematics, as well as update, calibrate and program machine control systems




  • Have a minimum Grade 12 education



  • Have a comprehensive millwright background and related certifications
  • Hold a valid Certificate of Qualification (433A and/or 429A); 
  • Provide proof of 8,000 hours crane mechanic experience
  • Have relevant experience working on machinery at height
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Possesses mechanical and hydraulic knowledge and experience
  • Successfully pass all formal examinations during the initial training period including Radiation Protection;
  • Be prepared to work a rotating 12-hour shift, including weekend and holidays;
  • Have exceptional problem solving abilities;
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Have a high comfort level with computers;
  • If applicable, have Canadian equivalency of foreign education; and
  • Be eligible to work in Canada.
