JOB OVERVIEW 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is excited to offer two (2) student opportunities in our Turbine Generator group in the Darlington Refurbishment Project. Positions are location in Ajax and Bowmanville, Ontario and public transportation will not be available (note: the first four months are located at our Annandale office in Ajax).  This is a 8 months student placement commencing in September 2019. 

All students applying for student positions at OPG must meet the below eligibility:

  • Enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution.
  • Have a minimum average of 70% cumulative GPA.
  • Returning to full-time studies in the same program following the completion of the work term OR requiring the work term or co-op placement to graduate.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Take an active role in helping our project team complete the Darlington Refurbishment on time and on budget.
  • Perform walkdowns in the plant/field to support the project team and schedule.
  • Conduct analysis to support the Turbine Generator Team.
  • Chair meetings and assist the project team with actions, minutes, and deliverables.
  • Create communications and summary documents for senior management and the project team.
  • Liaise between work groups to get resources for important tasks as required.
  • Review and update documents including scopes of work, project risks, etc., as needed.
  • Assist with project monitoring, risk management, metrics.
  • Witness unique field events and specialized refurbishing activities.
  • Support our project team on the Darlington Refurbishment Mega-Project.  

EDUCATION 

  • Minimum completion of 2nd year at a University specializing in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Preference may be given to the candidate who has the following skills and qualifications:

  • Organizational skills.
  • Time management abilities.
  • Excellent and clear communication.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Project management experience.
  • Accountable, motivated individual with a positive attitude and willingness to help.
  • A valid G2 or higher driver’s licence is required for the position

This job will provide you with the following professional development:

  • Enhanced communication skills.
  • Leading/participating in meetings, speaking with senior management.
  • Engaging stakeholders and negotiating resources.
  • Lead or participate in technical reviews, risk evaluation, document updates, action tracking.
  • Working side-by-side with Project Engineers and Project Managers.
  • Experience executing a mega-project in a world-class nuclear station with a great team.
