JOB OVERVIEW

 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for results driven, Nuclear professionals to join our team as Temporary – FLM Control / Mechanical.

 

This role serves as the D2011 Outage Oversight Supervisor. The successful successful candidates will be responsible for responsible for the effective execution of planned or emergency maintenance in accordance with approved procedures. Carry out due diligence in the reading of controlled documentation ensuring appropriate communication as a means of rollout to subordinates. Develop recommendations for improvement in maintenance plans and procedures, tools and techniques. Observe the maintenance function to ensure adherence to safety practices and work methods. Particular emphasis is placed on those activities involving critical steps where it is imperative that the Contract Oversight be in attendance.

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Assess work plans, determine priorities and establish personnel requirements and supervise staff.  Allocate regular and specific assignments to subordinates.
  • Plan, organize and schedule maintenance activities for both the current and upcoming shifts
  • Provide instruction and guidance as necessary regarding contract oversight and outage activities to subordinates
  • Maintain surveillance of all work activities, particularly those activities involving critical steps where it is imperative that contractor oversight be in attendance to provide critical oversight
  • Ensure directives are rolled out to subordinates through appropriate means of communication, including “tail boards” and pre-job briefings.
  • Review work performance through reporting systems and by observing the overall effectiveness of the entire work function.
  • Initiate corrective action to ensure the plant is not put at risk and to preserve efficient operation of the facility in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Ensure that safety practices and approved work procedures are being employed. Recognize violations; investigate circumstances; correct the condition and report on the incident and remedial action taken.
  • Obtain assistance from multiple station departments when required to resolve issues
  • Ensure that a thorough and comprehensive record of maintenance actions and events is maintained.
  • In conjunction with Section Manager, oversee the training and development of personnel in maintenance techniques and methods. Monitor the training levels of maintenance personnel; assign personnel to training programs and ensure they are trained to appropriate levels in keeping with job requirements.
  • Recognize new or changing areas, which are not adequately covered by existing training programs and alert appropriate personnel of the needs for specific training.
  • Participate with others in resolving maintenance problems or where it appears impractical or particularly difficult to carry out work program in prescribed manner.
    Contribute in the planning of routine maintenance programs and major shutdowns.
  • Provide resource data as to the nature and extent of labor requirements, radiation exposure requirements and the facilities necessary to carry out specific maintenance activities.
  • Perform other duties as required

 

EDUCATION

  • Grade 12, plus a Technical Degree / Diploma / Certification or Trade

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical degree or diploma or a journeyman certification is required;
  • Nuclear power generation / maintenance/construction experience is an asset;
  • Field experience in a nuclear plant, technical services, construction, industrial, or manufacturing environment is an asset;
  • Extensive knowledge of OH&SA (Occupational Health & Safety Act);
  • Working knowledge of CANDU reactor components is an asset;
  • Knowledge of pressure boundary quality assurance programs is an asset;
  • Understanding of foreign material prevention and management is an asset;
  • Understanding of confined spaces and entry requirements for confined spaces is an asset;
  • Preference given to personnel with experience in a contract oversight role;
  • Requires detailed technical knowledge of computer applications, mathematics, contracts and specifications;
  • Experience and familiarity with Nuclear facility safety procedures and practices, including radiation and personal protective equipment is an asset;
  • Required to work shift on a regular basis including weekends and nights;
  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral, ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders and prepare reports;
