JOB OVERVIEW 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Construction Director. 
 

Reporting to the VP Construction Services, this position is established as the Owners representative for Construction oversite over multiple vendors executing construction on the Darlington Small Modular Reactor project. Core duties will include development and implementation of construction safety and quality oversight programs as well ensuring cost and schedule deliverables are achieved at every project phase. The position will report into the project as part the integrated project team. 
 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Ensure Contractor Safety Management Process for assigned projects.
  • Develop strategies for field oversight and support, including contract administration and compliance with Ontario’s OSHA regulations.
  • Ensure contractor adherence to safety plans, quality assurance plans, project schedules, and legal obligations, while coordinating with agencies like ESA, MOL, and others.
  • Manage contract and claims processes, ensure engineering deliverables meet regulatory and quality standards, and provide oversight of construction activities.
  • Oversight and accountabilities maintaining labour relations with Building Trades Unions (BTU).
  • Develop project-specific management plans for Quality, Construction, and Contract Management.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., CNSC, ESA, TSSA, MOL) and that nuclear station modifications meet relevant standards and requirements.
  • Work within a matrix or functional organizational structure to achieve project goals.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Post Secondary education in Construction Management is required, a Professional Engineer of Ontario license would be an asset. 
  • 10+ years of experience with large civil construction and infrastructure projects holding values greater than $2 Billion 
  • Extensive experience working in an Owner Only Construction model under the Ontario Heath and Safety Act.
  • Experience in Nuclear construction is an asset but not a requirement.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
